Cowboys looking to become NFL's team of the
'90s

Hard to believe, but it's almost time for the shoulder pads to
start popping as NFL, college and high school teams gear up for
another season. So with that in mind, let's take a spin through
the sports world.
Buckle up, though; it promises to be a quick trip.
The Dallas Cowboys open training camp in Austin next Wednesday
afternoon in pursuit of their fourth Super Bowl trophy in the
last five seasons.
If they get it, it'll stamp them as the team of the decade and
give them six championships in their history.
But that cloud hanging over the teams is the specter of playing
a part - or all - of the season without wide receiver Michael
Irvin, currently involved in a drug trial in Dallas. Without
Irvin the Dallas offense drops about five notches because Kevin
Williams becomes your No. 1 receiver and Deion Sanders assumes
the No. 2 role.
Losing Irvin would not only hurt the offense, but the defense
as well, because it would mean Sanders would have to play both
ways while Irvin is away. And who out there really believes Williams
is a No. 1 receiver?
The hunch here is that Irvin plays the season (even though a
lot of Cowboy fans wouldn't mind seeing him traded) and the Cowboys
hold off the Packers and 49ers and win another Super Bowl.
No matter what happened in the offseason with free-agent losses,
no other team in the league can match the Cowboys' 22 starters.
