Goldthwaite will be looking to improve
upon last years 0-10 season as coach Gary Proffitts
Eagles will be returning 16 lettermen this season.
Leading the seven returning offensive players will be senior
running backs John Hale and Daniel Miller. The two combined to
run for 462 yards on 147 carries in 2002.
Quarterback Jake Proffitt, also a senior, will be returning
to lead the passing attack. Proffitt completed 31-of-61 passes
for 289 yards.
Daniel Miller, who had 103 tackles last year, headlines the
nine defensive starters coming back this year. Junior Jamie Moore
had 92 tackles, while Proffitt made 91 tackles.
The Eagles offensive line worked hard in the offseason,
and coach Proffitt believes that it is the most improved area
of his team.
Daryll Gremillion will be switching from offensive guard to
fullback for Goldthwaite this year, while Blake Padgett will move
from tight end to offensive tackle.
Goldthwaite will be looking to make the playoffs for the first
time since the 2000 season when they reached the area round.
The last time the Eagles won the district title was in the
1999 season.
Returning seniors this year are Hale, Proffitt, split end-defensive
back Kenny Prescott, Gremillion, Miller, offensive guard-defensive
tackle Chris Moore, offensive tackle-defensive tackle Nolan Wagner,
offensive tackle-defensive end Keegan Moonen, offensive tackle-defensive
tackle Josh Reinert, offensive tackle-defensive end Blake Padgett,
offensive tackle-defensive tackle Russell Wiedebusch, offensive
guard-defensive tackle Chad Davis, and split end-defensive tackle
Jose Vasquez.
The Eagles will play Early at 7:30 p.m. in their season opener.
Their first district game will be October 10 when they visit
