If heart and hard work are any indication
of how the Brookesmith Mustangs will fare in 2003, head football
coach Glenn Christmas believes his team is ready to move up the
District 12 Six-Man standings.
This team has worked hard in the off season and wants
to win, Christmas said.
Despite its 1-9 finish in 2002 (1-4 in district for fifth place),
Christmas believes off-season strength conditioning, desire and
experience can help his Mustangs overcome their No. 1 weakness
team speed.
Christmas will also look forward to leadership from returning
seniors Bryan Beck, Patrick Moore and Jesse Richmon.
Beck, the Mustangs top returning ball carrier from 2002,
was an honorable mention all-district selection last season. He
will share the backfield with Moore, the teams top returning
passer and a second-team all-district pick from 2002.
Richmon, the Mustangs top returning defensive player,
was a second-team all-district pick in 2002.
Christmas is also hoping an infusion of new talent will help
the Mustangs changes in 2003.
Sophomore James Melton should see time on both sides of the
ball at running back and linebacker, while Alex Holloway, also
a sophomore, may see time at quarterback and safety.
District play for Brookesmith opens Oct. 10 against district
favorite Richland Springs.
