By DON KING
Correspondent
BLACKWELL - A jet ski accident at Oak Creek Lake sent a 14
year-old-girl to Hendrick Medical Center by First Flight Sunday
afternoon.
The water mishap occured when the craft flipped and fell back
on the skier, according to witnesses.
A preliminary exam by paramedics at the scene indicated a possible
head injury. The victim, who was coherent, reported no feeling
in lower extremities.
According to a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson
in San Angelo, a Sterling County game warden was in charge of
investigating the recreational area accident and was not available
for comment by press time Sunday.
According to Blackwell paramedics, Sunday's accident was one
of several during recent days.
"We have had a big increase for those going on lake activities
because of the hot weather, and more people means more accidents,"
said Will Linoir, paramedic.
Linoir warns against do-it-yourself first aid.
"We've had several accidents on the water recently where
the victims and their families doctored themselves and didn't
report them,"
Any accident should be taken seriously according to emergency
medical authorities.
"If something happens on the water don't take it lightly
- call for help."
The accident victim remained in an undetermined condition at
Hendrick Medical Center.
