Library PAC has spent more than $18,000
The political action committee pushing passage of the library
bond issue spent more than $18,000 in the past three weeks.
According to a campaign finance report filed Monday, "Check
It Out. Check It In!" spent $18,080 from Oct. 7 through Friday
on its media blitz, yard signs, and printing, postage and shipping
costs.
During the same period, the campaign collected $5,560 in contributions.
Combined with the $19,453 the PAC received during the first reporting
period, the campaign has raised $25,013 total.
On Nov. 4, local voters will consider approval of a $10.5 million
bond issue to build a 75,000-square-foot library at North 6th
and Cypress. Repaying the debt would cost the average Abilene
homeowner, living in a $59,687 home, an additional $22 per year
in city taxes.
"Check It Out. Check It In!" was formed to support
passage of the bond issue. Thus far, there has been no organized
opposition to the measure.
Early voting continues at the Taylor County Courthouse through
Friday.
In Monday's report, the PAC identified $810 in donations of
less than $50 each.
The following contributed larger gifts:
-- $1,000 - Bronwyn Bowen.
-- $500 - William Wright, Tittle Luther Partnership, Morris
Ready-Mix Concrete, The Pender Co., and Security State Bank.
-- $250 - K.O. Long Jr.
-- $100 - PAC treasurer Dr. Jimmy McNeil, Laura Moore, City
Councilman Rob Beckham, Abilene school trustee Mike Sullivan,
Bryan Shilcutt, T.C. Campbell, Wendell Mathis, Debra Guerra, Express
Medical Supply, and Fred Hughes Motors.
