McMurry recognizes top employees

McMurry University has honored its faculty member, administrator and staff member of the year.

Dr. A.C. Sharp, professor of physics, was voted outstanding faculty member. McMurry controller Teresa Esman was named outstanding administrator, while Kay Hawkins-Lanes received the outstanding staff member award.

At McMurry since 1965, Sharp has served as McMurry's faculty athletic representative for 30 years and has held numerous posts in district and national positions for the national Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

He is a retired Texas State Guard member and long-time member of the Lion's Club, in which he served recently as district governor.

Esman joined the McMurry administration in 1993, and is a graduate of Abilene Christian University. She is a certified public accountant.

Hawkins-Lane serves as a receptionist for admissions and financial aid. She joined the college's staff in 1982.

The school also honored retirees and long-time employees for their years of service.

Those retiring, along with the number of years they served, are:

- Dr. James Alvis, professor of Spanish and French, 16 years.

- Patrick Bennett, associate professor of English, 28 years.

- Tommy Fry, associate professor of music, 18 years.

- Will Dix, director of physical properties, 10 years.

- Mary Swanson, director of financial aid, 25 years.

Receiving service awards, by number of years earned, were:

- Five years: Mike Lock, Trudy Mosley, Marli Strang and Kathie Walker-Millar.

- 10 years: Rebecca Bryant, Dr. Terry Northup, Marc Orner, Robert Penton, and Cleta Ramby.

- 15 years: William Hadley, Barbara Havard, Richard Schofield, Ann Liprie-Spence and Mark Odom.

- 20 years: Mary Blanton.

- 30 years: Dr. Joseph Stamey.

- 35 years: J. Robert Miller.

- 40 years: George Miller.

The awards were presented at the college's annual faculty/staff appreciation dinner.
