President appoints assistant for university relations

By BRIAN BETHEL / Abilene Reporter-News

Laura Moore, director of enrollment services at Hardin-Simmons University, has been named an assistant to president Lanny Hall.

Moore, a 1986 graduate of HSU, will become assistant to the president for university relations, a title that means more responsibility for her, Hall said.

Hall said he is confident she will meet those increased duties with "talent and energy."

"She's done a great job in any role she's ever assumed here," he said. "During two of the three years she served as director of admissions, the university experienced the two greatest enrollment years in HSU history."

Moore will "work with our office in community relations and responding to the myriad of challenges our office faces daily," he said.

Among her new duties will be daily problem solving, community outreach, and working with university trustees and other boards.

Moore said that she is "excited about the opportunities" the new position opens for her.

"I'm really looking forward to working with Dr. Hall," she said. "I've enjoyed working with him on projects in the past, and I think I'll enjoy the challenges ahead."

Hall said Moore's solid reputation preceded her before he took the job as president of the university.

"She's one of our most valued staff members, and her ability to deal with a wide variety of situations is incredible," he said. "Since this is a very challenging position, we think she's a perfect match."

Moore served as director of university relations from 1993-96 when she was named director of the enrollment services department. She was also vice chairman of the Citizens Library Review Panel.

She earned a master's degree from the University of Manchester in England as a Rotary scholar.

She is the daughter of Mrs. Jean Warren and the late Paul Warren of Big Spring, and a graduate of Big Spring High School.
