$13-million budget expected to be adopted tonight
By JONATHAN KRYDER Staff Writer
The Wylie school board is expected to adopt a $13 million budget
tonight and award a bid on an addition to the high school.
Superintendent Cecil Davis said the proposed budget of $13,060,282
reflects a 1.8 percent increase.
"I'm proud of the fact that it's conservative," Davis
said. "I feel like it's solid; it doesn't hurt any of our
programs."
Davis attributed the modest increase to bigger salary and technology
expenditures.
The superintendent said the proposal calls for last year's
$200,000 technology budget to increase by about $50,000. Most
of the increase will go toward purchase of new equipment, he said.
To accommodate the budget increases, the administration will
propose a $.0099 increase of the $1.34 tax rate tonight.
"Every taxpayer in the district is getting his money's
worth," Davis said. "The important thing is that it
still allows us to provide a quality education for our children."
Davis said he expects the board will adopt a budget, with or
without revisions.
The superintendent also said he expects the board to award
the high school construction contract to low bidder Rose Builders
Inc. The local contractor entered its bid for the addition of
20 high school classrooms at $1,028,400 and proposed to complete
the job in 300 days.
The board meets at 7 p.m. at 7049 Buffalo Gap Road.
