Wylie school administrator contracts extended
By BRIAN BETHEL / Staff Writer
Wylie's school administrators' contracts were extended by one
year Monday night, meaning they all have jobs through June 30,
1999.
Board members spent about 30 minutes in closed session while
examining the contracts of the district's administrative branch,
including principals and other high-ranked staffers.
"I don't think any member of this board can say enough
about all of the good things our administrators do for this district,"
said board president Don Blackburn. "We're glad to have you
aboard our ship."
In other business:
- Board members elected to sell an abandoned rental home near
the district's Butterfield campus.
High bid for the structure was $2,000 from Rita McGuire. The
home is to be moved from the property, which can then be used
for other projects.
In the event the original bid falls through for any reason,
the second-highest bidder, Little Joe's Movers, will get the house
instead. That bid was $1,750.
In a related consideration, Superintendent Cecil Davis was
given permission to seek the demolition of a dilapidated bus/storage
area near the rent house.
Davis said the structure would become "much more of an
eyesore" after the Butterfield home was removed.
- Board members approved a motion to call the district's annual
trustee election on Saturday, May 3.
Those with seats up for grabs include Blackburn, Place 6, and
Terry Beal, Place 7.
Neither made statements Monday night about running for re-election.
The first day to file for a place on the ballot will be Feb.
17, and the last day is March 19 at 4 p.m.
Early voting is slated to begin April 14, with the last day
to cast such ballots scheduled for April 29.
Those planning to vote early will do so at the district's administration
building.
Ballots for the regular election will be taken at Wylie Middle
School.
- Trustees also voted to move the district's regular March
school board meeting from March 10 to March 3.
The decision was made to avoid conflicting with scheduled spring
break activities.
