Wrong number results in arrest of two prostitutes
By the Associated Press
ABILENE, Texas (AP) - When two prostitutes attempted to return
a call to a potential customer, they got a wrong number that landed
them in jail.
Taylor County deputies said that the women mistakenly paged
a narcotics agent on Wednesday afternoon.
"They were one digit off, and they got the policeman instead
of the john that they were looking to make some money from,"
Taylor County Sheriff's Sgt. Earl Donnell told the Abilene Reporter-News.
The agent returned their call even though he didn't recognize
the number on his pager.
He quickly realized the woman wanted to talk a little "dirty
business."
He said she told him that he and a friend could have two sexual
acts performed for the bargain price of $40 apiece.
"The sky's the limit is what they told me," the agent
said. "It went a little further, and I told her I'd call
her back."
Before returning the call, the agent set up taping equipment.
The women called back although by that time they knew they
had dialed a wrong number.
After picking up the women at a motel, the agents revealed
their identity and arrested them.
"By the time we got there, we had plenty on tape,"
Sgt. Donnell said. "Just the look on their faces was a sight
to behold when they realized they had paged a police officer."
One of the women was released after posting a $500 bond on
a misdemeanor prostitution charge. The other was held in lieu
of the bond and because of a parole violation charge.
