Today's Obituaries (August 8, 1997)

Doris Richardson

Doris M. Richardson, 73, died Thursday in a local hospital.

A wake service will be at 7 p.m. today in Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 U.S. Hwy 277 South. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Family Catholic Church with Msgr. Fred Nawarskas officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Richardson was born in Texas City. She was the widow of Tom E. Richardson.

Survivors include one son, Jim Richardson of Snyder; two daughters, Nancy Kendall of Bridge City and Louise Frazier of Kingwood; and eight grandchildren.

Emilie Burton

Emilie (Mrs. George W.) Burton, 90, formerly of Dallas, died Thursday in a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas with Dr. James A. Glasscock officiating. Local arrangements were made by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mrs. Burton moved to Abilene in 1993 from Dallas. She was a member of University Park United Methodist Church in Dallas and was the widow of George W. Burton.

Survivors include one son, G. Vance Burton of Abilene.

Morris Lindsey Jr.

Morris D. Lindsey Jr., 64, customer service representative for West Texas Utilities for more than 37 years, died Wednesday at his home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Mike Woodard officiating. Burial will be in Potosi Cemetery.

Mr. Lindsey was born in Abilene and attended school in Wylie and at the St. Joseph Academy. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Korean conflict. He married Tommie Jo Williams in 1953 in Abilene and was a member of WTU Bass Fisherman's Club and Southwest Park Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two sons, Morris D. Lindsey III of Euless and Gary D. Lindsey of Abilene; two sisters, Gloria Maines of Richmond, Ind., and Dorothy Whisenhunt of View; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Big Country, 3113 Oldham Lane, Abilene 79602.

Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.

A.N. Hudgins

A.N. Hudgins, 84, died Thursday in San Angelo.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South, with the Rev. Mike Woodard officiating. Burial will be in Talpa Cemetery.

Mr. Hudgins was born in Hill County and attended school in Talpa. He worked in the family's farming and service station businesses and moved to Abilene in 1965 from Ballinger. He was a member of Southwest Park Baptist Church and was the widower of Thelma Elaine Brown Hudgins, whom he married in 1933 in Coleman.

Survivors include two sons, Roger Hudgins of Forsan and Dean Hudgins of San Angelo; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Gary Richard Michael

BROWNWOOD - Gary Richard Michael, 51, lifelong local resident, died Thursday at his home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early with Marty Reed and Terry Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Stag Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Michael was born in Brownwood and served with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam. He worked as a supply salesman for Elliott Electric and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, Gary Ryan Michael of Bedford; one daughter, Meleah Rashelle Michael of Bedford; his mother, Ludene Michael of Brownwood; one brother, Hal Dean Michael of May; one sister, Linda Lugene Cowin of Abilene; and one nephew and one niece.

Memorials may be sent to American Cancer Society, 209 S. Danville, Abilene 79605.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Earline Whitworth

STAMFORD - Earline Whitworth, 83, manager of Wash Pot Laundry and Dry Cleaning from 1964-92, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Orient Street Church of Christ with Stan Harvey and Chad Massie officiating. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery in Avoca, directed by Kinney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Whitworth was born in Jones County and moved to Stamford in 1933. She farmed in Avoca and Ericksdahl for many years. She was a longtime officer of the Avoca School Homecoming Association. She taught Sunday school at Orient Street Church of Christ for more than 40 years and was the widow of Hoytt E. Whitworth, whom she married in 1933 in Stamford.

Survivors include one son, Bobby Carl Whitworth of Tomball; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at 1033 Reynolds.

Lewis 'Boodles' Helm

IRA - Lewis "Boodles" Helm, 68, died Wednesday in a Lubbock hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Ira First Baptist Church with the Revs. Mark McMillan and Steve Long officiating. Burial will be in Ira Cemetery, directed by Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home of Snyder.

Mr. Helm was born in Haskell County and married Margie Gray in 1949 in Albany. He was a retired production foreman of Newmont Oil Co.

Survivors include his wife, of Ira; one son, Jerry Helm of Ira; four brothers, Herbert Helm of Roscoe, Milbert Helm of Monahans, Robert Helm of Coahoma and Albert Helm of Childress; one sister, Willie Helm of Coahoma; and one grandchild.

Lena Bullard

MINGUS - Lena D. Bullard, 80, died Wednesday in a Stephenville nursing home.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Strawn. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Catholic Church in Strawn with the Revs. Vincent V. Lnametti and Michael Orsini officiating. Burial will be in Mount Marion Cemetery.

Mrs. Bullard was born in Thurber and graduated from Mingus High School. She married Mitch Bullard in 1939 in Gordon and was a homemaker. She was a member of Mingus Ladies Club and St. John's Catholic Church in Strawn.

Survivors include her husband, of Mingus; one daughter, Linda May of Mingus; and two grandchildren.

Alpha Ray Morriss Martin

FLOWER MOUND - Alpha Ray Morriss Martin, 83, mother of a Cisco resident, died Wednesday at her home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Presbyterian Church with Dr. Robert S. Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Old Hall Cemetery, directed by Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home of Lewisville.

Mrs. Martin was born in Lewisville, where she attended school. She also attended North Texas State University in Denton and taught second grade in Lewisville for 30 years until retiring in 1980. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary society for women educators; Retired Teachers Association and Trinity Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of Almon M. Martin, whom she married in 1941 in Lewisville.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Scott of Carlsbad, N.M., and Mickey Chambers of Cisco; two sisters, Fay Mezdor of Lewisville and May Patterson of Carlsbad, N.M.; one brother, J.W. Morriss of Flower Mound; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Trinity Presbyterian Church Education Department and Building Fund, American Cancer Society or Gideon Bible Society.

Dorothy Yazell Rambo

EARLY - Dorothy Yazell Rambo, 91, died Wednesday in a Brownwood nursing home after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with the Rev. Jerry Galloway officiating. Burial will be in Bangs Cemetery.

Mrs. Rambo was born in Burnet and was a homemaker. She moved to Brown County in 1937. She was a Methodist and was the widow of Earl Yazell, whom she married in 1924 in Lampasas; and Charly Terrel Rambo, whom she married in 1937 in San Angelo.

Survivors include one daughter, Wilma Yazell Tackett of Zephyr; one son, Tex Richard Yazell of Zephyr; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity.

Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Betty Jo Schuermann

HASKELL - Betty Jo Schuermann, 65, of Woodward, Okla., and formerly of Haskell, died Thursday at her home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in East Side Baptist Church with the Revs. David Page and Kenneth Blair officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Schuermann was born in Haskell and married Eldon Lee Schuermann in 1964 in Clayton, N.M. She was a homemaker. She moved, in 1976, to Woodward, Okla., where she was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, of Woodward, Okla.; three sons, Billy Holmes and Doug Holmes, both of Beaver, Okla., and Tracy Schuermann of Woodward, Okla.; four daughters, Joan Johnson of Goodwell, Okla., Lisa Pettyjohn of Enid, Okla., Cheryl Wright of New Kirk, Okla., and Janis Gee of Perryton; her mother, Nellie Bird of Haskell; two brothers, Tommy Bird and Wallace Bird, both of Haskell; two sisters, Marie Solomon of Monahans and Sue Smith of Goodwell, Okla.; 22 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Lollie McCoy

SWEETWATER - Lollie McCoy, 93, died Thursday in a local retirement center.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Dr. Joel McCoy and the Rev. Malcolm Brown officiating. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. in Lamesa Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. McCoy was born in Weaver and lived in Burkburnett from 1947-55. She moved to Sweetwater in 1971 from Lamesa. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was the widow of the Rev. Roy McCoy, whom she married in 1921 in Anson.

Survivors include three daughters, Helen Costin of Sweetwater, Mary Klink of Henderson and Lois Hardy of Irvin; two sisters, Gertie Barnes of Riverside, Calif., and Dell Cox of Plano; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Maxine Kuehler

RHINELAND - Maxine Kuehler, 65, of Seymour and formerly of Rhineland, died Thursday in a Wichita Falls hospital.

Mass will be said at 4:30 p.m. today in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeremy Myers officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, directed by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home of Munday.

Mrs. Kuehler was born in Knox County and was a homemaker. She moved to Seymour from Rhineland and was the widow of Larry Anthony Kuehler, whom she married in 1957 in Rhineland.

Survivors include four daughters, Sherry Hons of Seymour, Pat Kuehler and Corrine Richter, both of Burkburnett, and Karen Kuehler of Wichita Falls; two sons, Mark Kuehler of Gilliland and Tim Kuehler of Seymour; two sisters, Bobbie Grisham and Wanda Pruitt, both of Wichita Falls; three brothers, Glen D. Henson of Odessa, Billy Ray Henson of Fort Worth and Jimmy Henson of Little Elm; and nine grandchildren.

Sam Fowler

BIG SPRING - Sam Fowler, 90, died Wednesday in an Andrews nursing home. Services are pending with Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

Inez Evelyn Cotton

ROSCOE - Inez Evelyn Cotton, 78, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital. Services are pending with McCoy Funeral Home.

James Cook

BIG SPRING - James Cook, 64, died Wednesday at his home. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Rosewood Chapel.

Larry Frank Batchelor

GOLDTHWAITE - Larry Frank Batchelor, 39, of Palestine, died Tuesday in Palestine. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery, directed by Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home.
