Today's Obituaries (Nov. 15, 1997)

Julia Louise Register

Julia Louise Register, 54, died Thursday at her home.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Robert Christian officiating. Burial will be in Compere Cemetery.

Mrs. Register was born in Abilene, where she attended school, and was a homemaker. She returned to Abilene in 1979 from Lubbock and was the widow of David Charles Register, whom she married in 1959 in Abilene.

Survivors include three sons, David Register of Petersburg, and Paul Register and Steven Register, both of Merkel; her mother, Emma Moore of Abilene; three brothers, Gene Moore of Abilene, Jimmy Moore of Vacaville, Calif., and Dennis Moore of San Marcos; two sisters, Loretta Logsdon of Abilene and Geneva Fort of Pasadena; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to Cook Children's Medical Center, 801 7th Ave., Fort Worth 76104; or The House That Kerry Built, 751 Hickory, Abilene 79601.

Juanita Hancock Mathers

Juanita Hancock Mathers, 83, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Potosi Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Dunnam officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mrs. Mathers was born in Dallas and attended school in Potosi. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Potosi Methodist Church and was the widow of Clyde Mathers, whom she married in 1954 in Long Beach, Calif.

Survivors include one stepdaughter, Mary Margaret Moore of Monmoth, Ill.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three cousins.

Annie Shelburne

BALLINGER -- Annie Shelburne, 98, died Thursday in El Paso.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Tony Gruben officiating, directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home. A memorial service was held Friday in Fort Hancock.

Ms. Shelburne was born in Runnels County and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University. She started teaching school at the elementary level in 1918 in Runnels County and taught in Fort Hancock for many years until retiring. She was a member of Fort Hancock Baptist Church.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

Mary Katherine Cogburn

COMANCHE -- Mary Katherine Cogburn, 88, of Dallas and formerly of Comanche, died Thursday in an Arlington care facility after a long illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Hall & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Howard officiating. Burial will be in De Leon Cemetery.

Mrs. Cogburn was born in St. Louis and was a homemaker. She formerly worked for the Methodist Retirement Home and Blanton Gardens and was a former member of Comanche First United Methodist Church. She moved to Dallas in 1965 and was a member of Highland Park Methodist Church. She was the widow of Charles Thurman Cogburn.

Survivors include two sons, Tom Cogburn and Phil Cogburn, both of Dallas; one brother, Sy Copeland of Richardson; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Thelma Warren Huff

SEYMOUR -- Thelma Warren Huff, 77, of Harlingen, sister of two Big Country residents, died Thursday in Temple.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Marvin Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, directed by Archer Funeral Home.

Mrs. Huff was born in Cottle County and moved to Baylor County in 1931. She graduated from Seymour High School in 1937. She was a homemaker and moved to Harlingen in 1982. She was a member of First Christian Church and was the widow of William Lewis Huff, whom she married in 1941.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Fest of Killeen; two sisters, Lela Crawford of Hamlin and Wilma Loflin of Anson; two brothers, Melvin Warren of Decatur and Clyde Warren of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Vernon Lyckman

AVOCA -- Vernon L. Lyckman, 88, died Thursday in a Stamford hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl with the Revs. Stan Leaf and Kent Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Churchyard Cemetery, directed by Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford.

Mr. Lyckman was born in Travis County and was a farmer. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and was the widower of Leona Nauert Swenson Lyckman, whom he married in 1933 in Pflugerville.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Greenlee of O'Donnell; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Larry Jay Martin

Larry Jay Martin, 39, died Thursday in a local hospital. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Ricky Hewtty

BIG SPRING -- Ricky Hewtty, 40, died Friday in a Lubbock hospital. Services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Lemuel 'L.L.' Armor

SWEETWATER -- Lemuel "L.L." Armor, 98, died Friday in Waco. Services are pending with Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Florence Decker

MUNDAY -- Florence Decker, 93, died Friday in a Knox City hospital. Services are pending with McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.

Lady Clyde Hooper

SWEETWATER -- Lady Clyde Hooper, 64, died Friday at her home. Services are pending with McCoy Funeral Home.

Michael Ted Noe Sr.

The memorial service for Michael Ted Noe Sr., 62, a prominent Abilene scoutmaster, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory. Noe died Thursday in a local hospital.

Allison Rene Carroll

SNYDER -- Allison Rene Carroll, 27, died Thursday in a Lubbock hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.

Pauline 'Polly' Reasoner

GORDON -- Pauline "Polly" Reasoner, 77, died Thursday in a Hurst nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Gordon First Baptist Church, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Strawn.

Mary Lee Frizzell

SNYDER -- Mary Lee Frizzell, 92, of Odessa and formerly of Snyder, died Thursday in an Odessa nursing home after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.

Mary Heatherington

STRAWN -- Mary Heatherington, 97, died Friday in a Fort Worth nursing home. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. John Catholic Church.
