Ona Belle Scott
Ona Belle Scott, 83, died Friday at a Dallas hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at North's Funeral Home
Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange, with Kenneth Jones officiating. Burial
will be in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Scott grew up in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High
School. She worked at Abilene and Cooper high schools (food service)
for more than 15 years and was a member of the Church of Christ.
She lived in Seoul, South Korea, from 1994-1997, when she moved
to Dallas. She married Ray Scott in 1932 in Abilene.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Rae Bozarth of Cedar Hill;
two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-7:30 p.m. today
and at 1950 S. 20th.
Charles Earl Carroll
Charles Earl Carroll, 48, died Thursday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Deliverance
Church with Elder Tabor officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill
Cemetery, directed by Curtis-Starks Funeral Home, 542 E.N. 7th.
Mr. Carroll was born in Arlington, Calif., and graduated from
high school in Palm Springs, Calif.
Survivors include his mother, Velmary Carroll of California;
and a host of other relatives.
Mary Hendricks
Mary B. Hendricks, 69, of Tye died Saturday at her home.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Elmwood Funeral Home
Memorial Chapel, 5750 Hwy. 277 South. Graveside services will
be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Tye Cemetery with the Rev. David Matz
officiating.
Mrs. Hendricks was born in La Grulla and moved to Tye from
Raymondville in August. She worked in the restaurant business
for many years. She married Bennie J. Hendricks in 1949 in Corpus
Christi; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Dora Bermea of Tye, Gloria
Hinojosa of Rice and Janie Deleon of Victoria; one son, Johnny
Hendricks of Raymondville; two brothers, Raymond Bermea of Tye
and Jose Bermea of Massachusetts; two sisters, Barbara Bicker
of Florida and Juanita Saldivar of Amarillo; 19 grandchildren
and 24 great-grandchildren.
Petra Rodela
Petra R. Rodela, 105, died Saturday at a local hospital.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at Elliott-Hamil Funeral
Home, 542 Hickory. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent
Pallotti Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Uecker officiating.
Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Rodela was born in Rio Grande, Zacatecas, Mexico, and
moved to Abilene from Rochester in 1958. She was a homemaker and
a Catholic. She married Petonilo Rodela in 1946 in Mexico; he
preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Jesus Rodela of Corpus Christi
and Raymundo Rodela of Abilene; three daughters, Santiaga Cantu
of La Villa, Florinda Perez of Mercedes and Julia Ortiz of Abilene;
34 grandchildren, 120 great-grandchildren and 44 great-great-grandchildren.
Milton Burns
RISING STAR - Milton A. Burns, 84, died Saturday at an Abilene
hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Rising Star Cemetery
with Dean Bailey officiating, directed by Higginbotham Funeral
Home.
Mr. Burns was born in Marque and moved to Abilene in 1948 and
to Rising Star in 1997. He was a self-employed painter and a member
of Oldham Lane Church of Christ in Abilene. He married Mildred
LaVerne Owen in 1936 in Eastland County.
Survivors include his wife of Rising Star; one son, Milton
Wayne Burns of Abilene; one daughter, Betty Ruth Mullis of Abilene;
one sister, Marietta McKibben of May; one granddaughter and two
great-grandsons.
Iva Williams Bains
BAIRD - Iva Williams Bains, 100, died Sunday.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Primitive Baptist Church,
3565 Hickory in Abilene, with Mark Burris officiating, assisted
by Travis Brown. Burial will be in Oplin Cemetery, directed by
Parker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bains was born in Jewett and moved to Callahan County
in 1908 from Leon County, settling in Cottonwood. She later moved
to Oplin, where she farmed and ranched. She was a member of Abilene
Primitive Baptist Church. She married Nigle Earl Bains in 1915
in Callahan County.
Survivors include two daughters, Elba Gaffin of Spur and Delma
Scott of Clyde; two sons, Harvel Bains of Lubbock and Horace Bains
of Abilene; 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren
and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Oplin Cemetery Association.
The body will be at the funeral home today and at Abilene Primitive
Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday.
Sarah Ethel Bishop
COLEMAN - Sarah Ethel Bishop, 89, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel
with the Rev. Roger Hammonds officiating. Burial will be in Dewey
Cemetery near Lawn.
Mrs. Bishop was born in Briggs and had lived in Coleman County
since 1961. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She married Cecil
Bishop in 1927 in Cleburne; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Elrod of Coleman; two
sons, Arthur Bishop of San Antonio and Billy Bob Bishop of Westminister,
Calif.; one sister, Ruby Morgan of Coleman; six grandchildren,
eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. today.
Juanita Felan Garcia
LORAINE - Juanita Felan Garcia, 69, died Friday in Abilene.
Services were Sunday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the
Rev. Patrick Maher officiating. Burial was in Loraine Cemetery,
directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home of Colorado City.
Mrs. Garcia was born in Womack and had lived in Loraine since
1948. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She married
Panfilo Garcia in 1948 in Meridian.
Survivors include her husband, of Loraine; one daughter, Susan
Sanchez of Loraine; seven brothers, Margarito Felan of Groesbeck,
Jose Pina and Urban Pina, both of Mabton, Wash., Pete Pina of
Moxy, Wash., Sisto Matras Pina of Federal Way, Wash., Rudy Pino
of Granger, Wash., and Marvin Pina of Stockton, Calif.; eight
sisters, Pauline Villaria of McGregor, Patricia Gonzales of Grand
Prairie, Prese Reyes of Waco, Beatrice Perez of Sunnyside, Wash.,
Alice Varges of Lynden, Wash., Mary Pina of Yakima, Wash., Josie
Pina of Granger, Wash., and Angelina Felan of Whitney; and two
grandchildren.
Frelon Huff Sr.
COLORADO CITY - Frelon O. Huff Sr., 61, died Thursday at a
Big Spring hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Mitchell County
Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Wilhelm officiating, directed by Kiker-Seale
Funeral Home.
Mr. Huff was born in Sparta, Tenn., and attended St. Ann's
Catholic Church. He was a welder and an Army veteran of the Korean
Conflict. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Retired
Ironworkers Local 379 in Lafette, Ind. He married Joan Patton
in 1961 in Lebanon, Ind.
Survivors include his wife, of Colorado City; three sons, Frelon
Huff Jr. of Odessa, James Huff II of Remington, Ind., and Victor
Huff of Colorado City; one sister, Dianna Reiss of Battleground,
Ind.; two brothers, Frazier Huff of Remington, Ind., and Franklin
Huff of Rensselaer, Ind.; and seven grandchildren.
Guadalupe Alvarez
HASKELL - Guadalupe Alvarez, 78, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Iglesia Bautista
El Calvario with the Rev. Vergil Smith officiating. Services will
be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Iglesia Bautista El Calvario with the
Rev. Jim Garcia officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery,
directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Home.
Mr. Alvarez was born in Robstown and was a retired farmer and
pastor and choir leader in Rule and Munday. He married Rosa Peralez
in 1946 in Robstown.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Guadalupe Alvarez Jr.
and Mario Alvarez, both of Fort Worth, and Alberto Alvarez, Roy
Alvarez and Alvino Alvarez, all of Haskell; one daughter, Rosie
Alvarez of Haskell; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
James Adams
ALBANY - James E. Adams, 66, died Saturday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian
Church with the Rev. Alec Ream officiating. Burial will be in
Albany Cemetery, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home.
Mr. Adams was born in Albany and graduated from Albany High
School and Texas Tech University. He operated Adams Ranch and
Feed Lot with his father and for the past 25 years has owned and
operated City Grocery and Market. He is a member of the Rockwell
Foundation board and of Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church.
He married Linda Ann McCord in 1962 in Cleburne.
Survivors include his wife, of Albany; one son, Jay Adams of
Breckenridge; one daughter, Lisa Adams of Dallas; one sister,
Betty Viertel of Albany; and his mother, Ruth (Mrs. Arthur) Adams
of Albany.
Memorials may be made to Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church
or to the donor's favorite charity.
Joe Frank Welch
DODD CITY - Joe Frank Welch, 76, died Saturday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church
in Bonham, directed by Cooper-Sorrels Funeral Home of Bonham.
Stella Faye Pittman
STEPHENVILLE - Stella Faye Pittman, 90, died Saturday at a
local nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Stephenville
Funeral Home Chapel.
Joseph Lesley Christensen
BIG SPRING - Joseph Lesley Christensen, 74, of El Paso and
formerly of Big Spring, died Sunday in El Paso. Services will
be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home
Rosewood Chapel.
Clara Contreras
HASKELL - Clara F. Contreras, 85, died Saturday at a Waco nursing
home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. George Catholic
Church, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Elizabeth Baldwin
HASKELL - Elizabeth Baldwin, 95, died Sunday in Dallas. Graveside
services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Willow Cemetery, directed
by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Alpha Smith
HAMLIN - Alpha Smith, 94, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Services are pending with Foster-Adams Funeral Home.
