H.H. 'Bussie' Boaz

BROWNWOOD - H.H. "Bussie" Boaz, 82, of Early died Sunday at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Galloway officiating. Burial will be in May Cemetery in May.

Mr. Boaz was born in Merkel and had lived in Brown County for 67 years. He was a farmer and rancher and a member of First Baptist Church of Merkel. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He married Joy Elizabeth McBride in 1943 in May.

Survivors include his wife, of Early; one son, Eugene Boaz of Abilene; one sister, Evelyn Scoggins of Plano; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Clara Contreras

HASKELL - Clara F. Contreras, 85, died Saturday at a Waco nursing home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Saint George Catholic Church with the Rev. Micheal Melcher officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Contreras was born in Mexico and was a homemaker and a Catholic. She was the widow of Jose Contreras.

Survivors include five sons, Simon Contreras of Louisiana, Enrique Contreras, Jose Contreras and Graviel Contreras, all of Waco, and Frank Contreras of Raymondville; seven daughters, Maria Medina of Hewitt, Golla Rivera of San Antonio, Mary Garcia of Abilene, Consuelo Rodriquez of Sweetwater, Maria De Jesus Contreras of Stamford and Josefina DeLaRosa and Luisa Contreras, both of Corpus Christi; five sisters, Senovia Fuentes of Pelestia, Mexico, Jesusa Ribera of Robstown, Gravida Flores, Socorro Fuentes and Paula Fuentes, all of Del Rio; one brother, Nicolas Fuentes of Mexico; 68 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.

Varge Daniel

Varge Daniel, 79, of Abilene and formerly of Eastland, died Sunday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Wright officiating. Burial will be in Eastland City Cemetery.

Mr. Daniel was born in Cisco, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1935. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1946 to 1979 and farmed and ranched from 1963 to 1995. He moved to Abilene in 1988 and attended First Christian Church. He married Evelyn Collum in 1944 in Sioux City, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one brother, George McCarty Daniel of San Antonio; and 10 nieces and nephews.

Eva Dell Jones

HASKELL - Eva Dell Jones, 63, died Saturday at a Lubbock hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with Kenneth Blair officiating. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Jones was born in Throckmorton and graduated from Rochester High School. She was a secretary for Meals on Wheels for a number of years and a Baptist.

Survivors include four nieces and nephews, including Jim Berry of Abilene; two aunts and several cousins.

Irene Hogan

BRECKENRIDGE - Irene Hogan, 98, died Sunday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Christian Church with Charles Kuhn and the Rev. Johnny Miller officiating. Burial will be in Breckenridge Cemetery, directed by Melton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hogan was born in Piney Fork, W.Va., and moved to Texas in 1919. She was a member of First Christian Church, Breckenridge Country Club and Breckenridge Square Dance Club and a charter and lifetime member of Breckenridge Garden Club. She married C. Frank Hogan in 1919 in New Martinsville, W.Va.; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Jean Hellman of El Paso; two sons, John Hogan of Breckenridge and William Hogan of San Antonio; two sisters, Verna Ferrell of Columbus, Ohio, and Geneva Parks of New Martinsville; one brother, Frank Bartug of Maryland; 21 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials to Meals on Wheels or Breckenridge Senior Citizens may be left at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Baldwin

HASKELL - Elizabeth Baldwin, 95, died Sunday at a Dallas nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Willow Cemetery with Dusty Garison officiating, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.

Ms. Baldwin was born in Haskell, where she grew up and graduated from high school. She graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in education and taught for 40 years, most of it in Houston. She was a member of East Dallas Christian Church.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

Alpha Smith

HAMLIN - Alpha Smith, 94, died Sunday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hamlin Church of the Nazarene with the Revs. Marshall Stewart, Randy Larpenter and Mike Howard officiating. Burial will be in Hamlin East Cemetery, directed by Foster-Adams Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith was born in Brown County, moved to the Hamlin area in 1914 and attended rural Fisher County schools. She was a homemaker and a member of Hamlin Church of the Nazarene, where she taught the nursery class for 20 years. She married Euin Smith in 1921 in Fisher County; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Ray Smith of Lake Buchanan; two daughters, Florene Butler of Snyder and Mildred Pitcock of Burleson; one brother, Charlie Messick of Rotan; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Floyd 'Jack' Lewis

BROWNWOOD - Floyd D. "Jack" Lewis, 58, of Akron, Colo., and formerly of Brownwood, died Sunday in Colorado after a lengthy illness.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Blanket Cemetery with Chaplain Dick Williams officiating, directed by Heartland Funeral Home.

Mr. Lewis was a welder and a Baptist.

Survivors include one son, Glenn Aaron of Akron; one daughter, Sondra Lewis Diaz of Wray, Colo.; one sister, Debbie Lewis of Ohio; his mother, Dorothy Wiseman of Sarasota, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 2-4:30 p.m. today.

Dorothy 'Dottie Jo' Reynolds

BIG SPRING - Dorothy "Dottie Jo" Reynolds, 67, of Midland died Monday at a Midland hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Trinity Memorial Park, directed by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Mrs. Reynolds was born in Menasates and lived in Big Spring from 1962 to 1974, when she moved to Midland. She worked at Ken's Rent-a-Center for a number of years until retiring. She also worked for Warfield Truck Stop and the U-Haul Rental in Midland. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Stacy Reynolds of Midland and Earl Reynolds of Grand Prairie; two daughters, Dianna Carter of Simi Valley, Calif., and Glenda Gillihan of Big Spring; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association of Texas, Central Region, P.O. Box 26566, Austin 78755-0566; or to the donor's favorite charity.

Betty Jo Wilson

BROWNWOOD - Betty Jo Wilson, 69, died Monday at her home.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Eastlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Jay Swoveland officiating, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Brownwood and graduated from Brownwood High School. She graduated from Texas Tech University as a registered nurse and had a 35-year career in nursing, serving as director of nursing at several hospitals. She returned to Brownwood four years ago and was a Baptist. She married Raymond Wilson in 1949 in Lubbock.

Survivors include her husband, of Brownwood; one daughter, Connie Rausch of Brownwood; one son, Jim Wilson of Denton; one sister, Jane Weatherby of Brownwood; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

George Carlile

BAIRD - George L. Carlile, 87, died Monday at an Abilene hospital after a sudden illness.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Ross Cemetery Annex.

Mr. Carlile was born in Belle Plaine and lived in Callahan County most of his life. He was a rancher and cowboy and a member of Clyde Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, D'Ann Holson of Tuscola; one stepson, Harvey Christensen of Dallas; two sisters, Amy Albrecht of Cross Plains and Doris Wilson of Baird; five stepchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Naomi Massey

THROCKMORTON - Naomi Massey, 78, died Sunday at her home. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Throckmorton Church of Christ, directed by Merriman-Archer Funeral Home.

Durward Wayne Tudor

THROCKMORTON - Durward Wayne Tudor, 82, formerly of Abilene, died Monday at a local hospital. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Throckmorton Cemetery, directed by Merriman-Archer Funeral Home.

Robert Leo Cadenhead

CLYDE - Robert Leo Cadenhead, 92, died Monday at an Abilene hospital. Services are pending with Bailey Funeral Home.

Victor Wiedebusch

GOLDTHWAITE - Victor Wiedebusch, 78, of Caradan, died Monday at a Hamilton hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home Chapel.

George Duncan

George W. Duncan, 78, of LaBelle, Fla., and formerly of Abilene, died Sunday in Lehigh Acres, Fla. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

David Reece Martin

EASTLAND - David Reece Martin, 56, died Sunday at a local hospital. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Hillsboro Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.
