Out to the ball game
A week on the road is an unfriendly way to start the season,
and so the Abilene Prairie Dogs deserve a warm welcome when they
take the field for their Texas-Louisiana League home opener tonight
against the Alexandria Aces.
The game starts at 7:05 p.m. at Abilene Christian University's
Crutcher Scott Field.
To mark the occasion, our sports section today features a special
layout about the league's defending champions, including pictures
and biographical sketches of all the players, the season's complete
schedule, ticket information and a preview of tonight's game.
For the past two summers, minor league baseball has provided
terrific family entertainment for the Abilene community. This
summer promises to continue that tradition. And with two Abilenians
added to the lineup - John Baack, who played for Wylie and ACU,
and Louis Maberry, who played for Cooper and ACU - local fans
will have some familiar faces to root for.
It's a great night to go out to the ball game.
