Prairie Dogs keep setting records
By Reporter OnLine
The Abilene Prairie Dogs, who continue their road trip against
the Lubbock Crickets tonight at 7:50 p.m., are mounting up some
amazing numbers this season.
The Prairie Dogs, first-half champions in the Texas-Louisiana
League, swept a three-game series at Rio Grande Valley over the
weekend, improving their record to 8-2 in the second half and
opening up a 21/2-game lead on the WhiteWings.
Abilene has now won seven games in a row and 21 of its last 23
games.
The Prairie Dogs scored 42 runs in the three games at Rio Grande
Valley, including 22 in Sunday night's 22-8 victory. The 22 runs
broke a league record of 19 set last season by Amarillo against
Puebleo on July 2. Abilene hit nine home runs in the three games
in the Valley.
The sweep was the sixth series sweep of the season for the Prairie
Dogs, who have now won 14 series, lost two and split two this
season. Amazingly, the Abilene club has a 23-4 record on the road
this season.
Left-hander Lance Schuermann (5-0, 3.11 ERA) is scheduled to pitch
the series opener against Lubbock tonight.
The Prairie Dogs won't return home until Aug. 1 when they open
a four-game series with Amarillo.
