Prairie Dogs return home to open final home-stand

By Reporter OnLine

The Abilene Prairie Dogs return home this weekend to open its final regular-season homestand of the 1996 baseball season. The Prairie Dogs, who will host the Alexandria Aces in three games beginning Friday night, will play 13 games at home in the next two weeks.

The homestand kicks off with a pair of big giveaways this Friday and Saturday night.

On Friday night, the first 500 kids ages 12-and-under will receive a free Prairie Dogs Mini Bat, compliments of Harmony Family Services and Abilene Aero.

Saturday night, the first 1,400 fans (regardless of age) through the gate will receive a nylon Prairie Dogs sports wallet from First National Bank of Abilene and Power 103/Y-99 radio. Inside each wallet will be a special "Dog Dollar" which can be redeemed for $1 credit at the Prairie Dogs souvenir or concession stand during Saturday night's game.

Other upcoming promotions throughout the rest of the season include Prairie Dogs Baseball Car Night on Friday, Aug. 23, sponsored by Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems and KEAN radio; and Grounder Coloring Book Night on Saturday, Aug. 24, compliments of the Abilene Reporter-News.

Other special events are planned throughout the entire 13-game homestand, including giveaways of American Airlines tickets (Tuesday nights), Six Flags Over Texas family getaway packages (Thursday, Aug. 29) and Photo Image Center Prairie Dogs Collector Photos (Tuesday nights).

A special Fan Appreciation Night is also set for the regular season home finale on Thursday, Aug. 29. Details are still pending.

The Prairie Dogs, who won the first-half Texas-Louisiana League championship and are leading in the second-half race as well, will be putting playoff ticket packages on sale soon.

For ticket reservations, fans can call the Prairie Dogs ticket office weekdays after 10 a.m. at (915) 674-6946.
