Abilene, Cooper volleyballers win big

MIDLAND - Cooper rallied in each game Saturday to post a 15-13,
15-10 victory over Midland Lee, which improved the Lady Cougars'
record to 10-8, 2-0 in the district.
Cricket Holt, who entered the game with Cooper down 13-6 in the
first game, served for nine straight CHS points, ending the first
game.
Holt began the second game by serving six straight points. However,
Cooper lost the lead as Lee rallied for eight straight points
and an 8-6 lead.
However, Cooper then went on a 9-2 run to close out the match.
"Cricket definitely helped us out with serving and setting,"
said Cooper coach Beth Wills. "In addition, Katherine Weir
and Melisse Watkins also had tremendous games for us, defensively."
The Cooper junior varsity squad also picked up a win, downing
Lee 16-14 adn 15-9.
Cooper's next game is a home date against Odessa Permian Tuesday.
The junior varsity game begins at 6:15 p.m. and the varsity will
follow at 7:30 p.m.
AHS def. Midland 15-1, 15-5
The Abilene High girls volleyball team posted a 15-1, 15-5
District 4-5A victory over Midland High Saturday at Eagle Gym.
The win moved the Lady Eagles to 1-2 in district, and 7-9 overall.
"That's the best they've played so far this year," AHS
coach Didi Pierce said. "Everybody contributed, and everybody
overall had a great game."
Kelly Armbruster led the Lady Eagles with four aces and also had
four kills. Tabatha Breeding and April Letz also had four kills
for AHS.
In the junior varsity game, AHS improved to 10-0 on the season
with a 15-6, 10-15, 15-10 win.
The next game for the Lady Eagles will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday
at Odessa High.
