Texas A&M-Kingsville clinched its sixth consecutive Lone
Star Conference title with a big assist from Stephen Norman.
Norman caught three touchdown passes, as the Javelinas beat
San Angelo State 35-25 to wrap up the title with their 39th consecutive
league victory.
Norman finished with six catches for 163 yards. His other scores
were for 47 and 16 yards. Angelo State's Erik Hartman hit 13-of-35
passes for 224 yards He ran for three touchdown and passed for
another but it wasn't enough to beat the perennial champs.
In other Lone Star games: Central Oklahoma beat Northeast Oklahoma,
17-16; Midwestern State beat Eastern New Mexico 24-7; Southeast
Oklahoma beat East Central 35-14; Southwest Oklahoma beat Harding
42-27; Tarleton State beat Texas A&M-Commerce 49-21 and West
Texas A&M beat Abilene Christian 20-0.
Norman caught a 50-yard touchdown pass to put A&M-Kingsville
ahead for good with 1:15 left in the second quarter. Hartman had
just thrown a 7-yard touchdown pass that gave the Rams their only
lead of the game.
Chad Cole threw four touchdown passes and Tyrone Wall ran for
two touchdowns leading Tarleton's victory over Texas A&M-commerce.
Boobie Thornton returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown
and had a 54-yard touchdown run in leading Midwestern State past
Eastern New Mexico.
West Texas A&M blanked Abilene Christian, aided by DeWayne
Miles, who rushed 96 yards on 18 carries and one touchdown run.
