Dallas Mavericks lose to Golden State Warriors

DALLAS - Latrell Sprewell scored 28 points and Joe Smith added 20 points and 12 rebounds as the Golden State Warriors snapped a four-game losing streak with a 107-99 victory over the Dallas Mavericks Thursday night.

Sprewell fell far short of the 46 points he scored in the Warriors' 105-93 decision over the Mavericks on Jan. 21, the last meeting between the teams, but the All-Star guard still hit 9-of-18 shots as Golden State handed Dallas its fourth defeat in the last six games.

Bimbo Coles connected on a 3-pointer with 8:52 to play to break an 87-87 tie and the Warriors went on to a 7-0 run for a 94-87 lead.

Dallas, led by Chris Gatling's 19 points and 13 rebounds, was never able to get closer than three points the rest of the way. Sam Cassell added 18 points and Michael Finley had 15 for the Mavericks.

In an attempt to shake up his team, coach Jim Cleamons started Gatling, his sixth man all season, at power forward and moved A.C. Green to center in place of Eric Montross.

The Mavericks showed more energy in the first half than they did in their last game, a poorly-played 111-97 home loss to San Antonio. Send a Letter to the Editor about This Story | Start or Join A Discussion about This Story
