Pavlik and Rangers agree to $1.6 million deal
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Roger Pavlik, cut loose by Texas last
weekend, returned to the Rangers on Tuesday when he agreed to
a $1.6 million, one-year contract.
The 30-year-old right-hander was 3-5 with a 4.37 ERA in 11
starts with the Rangers last season. He went on the disabled list
May 12 with right elbow problems and had arthroscopic surgery
May 23 to remove a spur and bone chips.
Pavlik was activated Sept. 2, and had a 1.80 ERA in his final
four starts, pitching 25 innings.
He has a career record of 46-38 with a 4.59 ERA in 126 games
with Texas from 1992-97. His best year was in 1996, when he went
15-8 in 34 starts and was a member of the AL All-Star team.
Pavlik made $2.85 million, and the Rangers failed to offer
him a contract by Saturday's deadline in order to get around the
rule capping salary cuts at 20 percent.
His new contract allowed him to make $900,000 in performance
bonuses. He would earn $100,000 if he makes five starts and would
get the full amount if he makes 32.
