Rice teammates receive WAC honors
DENVER (AP) - Rice running back Michael Perry and teammate
LaDouphyous McCalla on Monday were named Western Athletic Conference
Mountain Division offensive and defensive players of the week.
Perry, the WAC's leading rusher, ran for 133 yards and two
touchdowns, while McCalla had two interceptions in Rice's 35-23
win over previously unbeaten New Mexico.
Colorado State wide receiver Geoff Turner was named WAC Pacific
Division offensive player of the week after catching nine passes
for 159 yards in a 14-7 win over Wyoming.
A.J. Gass, in his third game back from a hand injury, received
WAC Pacific Division defensive honors after recording 15 tackles
and forcing a fumble in Fresno State's 20-17 upset of Air Force.
Brigham Young's Jaron Dabney and San Jose State's Omarr Smith
were named special teams players of the week in the Mountain and
Pacific divisions, respectively.
Dabney returned a punt 83 yards for a touchdown, while Smith
had a 84-yard punt return for San Jose State's only TD.Send
